Speaker:
Meaghan Hackinen is a bikepacker and writer whose two-wheeled adventures have taken her from Haida Gwaii to Mexico’s high plateaus, across Canada and the United States, and from North Cape to Tarifa along some of Europe’s highest paved roads. With over a dozen women’s wins and several fastest known times, Meaghan is one of Canada’s top endurance cyclists. Meaghan has an MFA in Writing from the University of Saskatchewan and is the author of South Away: The Pacific Coast on Two Wheels, a Kobo Emerging Writing Prize nominee, and Shifting Gears: Coast to Coast on the Trans Am Bike Race (NeWest Press).
Topic:
On June 14, 2024, Meaghan set out to compete in the Tour Divide Mountain Bike Race: a 4,400-kilometre off-road adventure zigzagging the spine of the Continental Divide from Banff, Alberta, to the US-Mexico border. Join Meaghan for a lively slideshow recap of her first-place women’s finish (7th overall) sharing the grit and glory of big days in the saddle, with plenty of time for audience questions. This talk is for anyone who dreams of testing their limits, sleeping under the stars, or discovering what they are really made of.
NOTE: Copies of South Away: The Pacific Coast on Two Wheels and Shifting Gears: Coast to Coast on the Trans Am Bike Race (NeWest Press), will be available for purchase at the end of the presentation.
